How Catalyst works: quotes, issuers, documents and statistics
Catalyst organizes quotations for corporate, municipal, treasury and other debt instruments. We explain the sections that matter most to investors.
Catalyst is a public market for debt instruments operated within the GPW group. The market website separates quotes for corporate, cooperative, municipal and treasury bonds, covered bonds and other instruments. That is a good starting point for understanding which type of debt you are analyzing.
For investors, the most important sections are quotes, issuer documents, issuer reports, interest tables, yield scanner and market-event calendar. Quotes show the market, but documents and reports explain why a series exists and what its terms are.
Catalyst also shows market statistics, number of series, issue value and activity of selected instruments. These data help distinguish broad market context from a single transaction that may be small or stale.
Not every Catalyst instrument is liquid. Listing alone does not mean a transaction can always be executed quickly at the last price. Alongside price, check order book, spread, traded value and last-trade date.
Catalyst is also a path to documents. Terms of issue, current reports, sanctions, ratings and information duties can matter more than current coupon, especially for longer-dated corporate bonds.
How do you move from research to a transaction while living abroad? First send the selected broker the ISIN and ask whether it supports that series and clients with your citizenship and residence. After documents are accepted and the account is activated, establish funding, currency, minimum bond quantity and minimum commission. For an order, check nominal value, price as a percentage of nominal, accrued interest and total cost; a limit price controls execution price but does not guarantee a fill. Also establish later sale and overseas withdrawal arrangements before purchasing.
