MCP: connecting AI to data

MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI application use an external service’s data and tools. In ObligacjeIO it provides access to the bond catalog, issuer information, educational material and available documentary sources during an AI conversation.

Instead of copying data from a website into a chat, you can ask a question in your own words. The AI application selects a suitable tool, sends a request to ObligacjeIO and receives a result to use in its answer. MCP itself is not a language model: it connects the model to the service supplying the data.

What are the benefits of MCP?

The first benefit is less manual copying. One question can combine finding a series, reading its parameters and reaching available documents. You can ask follow-up questions in the same conversation without entering the symbols and issue terms again.

The second benefit is answers based on data retrieved from the service, rather than only on the model’s memory. Ask the AI to identify sources, the date of the data and missing information. MCP makes evidence easier to access, but a model can still misread a result or document. A link and page number help you check its interpretation.

The third benefit is working in your preferred AI environment, provided it supports our connection. ObligacjeIO supplies the data; the application conducts the conversation and helps organize it.

Five use cases with ObligacjeIO

Finding series: “Using ObligacjeIO, find PLN corporate bonds with a fixed coupon and maturity in 2027. Show symbols, issuers, coupons and maturity dates. Include the total result count, catalog scope and whether you are showing only part of the list.” This is a starting point for analysis, not a ranking of the best investments.

Comparing terms: “Compare series A and B by denomination, coupon formula, maturity, collateral and early-redemption rights. Cite a source for each finding; mark missing data as unknown.” Replace A and B with actual symbols. This shows differences in issue structure without pretending to assess investment value at current market prices.

Reading documents: “For this series, find early-redemption terms and covenants. Explain them in plain language and identify the document and page supporting each term.” Available facts and document excerpts help you reach the evidence behind an answer. A covenant’s wording does not prove the issuer currently complies with it.

Understanding an issuer: “What does the issuer of this series do? Distinguish the issuing entity from its corporate group and cite the sources of the description.” For this question, distinguish a description of business activities from an assessment of financial condition and risk.

Learning from a specific example: “Use this series to explain the difference between coupon and yield to maturity. Separate issue data from assumptions needed for calculations.” The AI can combine bond parameters with the knowledge base and direct you to a relevant page or calculator. A coupon is not the yield obtained when buying at any price.

How to ask useful questions

A useful question includes a series symbol or issuer name, precise criteria and the desired answer format. Add: “Use ObligacjeIO, cite sources, distinguish facts from assumptions and do not guess missing data.” For a long list, ask for subsequent result pages rather than assuming the first answer covers the entire catalog.

Useful follow-ups include: “Which document supports this?”, “What date does this information relate to?” and “What cannot be established from the available sources?” No result does not necessarily mean a bond or clause does not exist: it may fall outside the catalog’s scope or lack a reviewed document.

Permissions, privacy and access controls

Tool results are sent to the AI application you use. Its provider also determines how conversations are stored and data is used. Analyzing public issue terms does not require sharing your portfolio, account balance or other private information.

You can revoke consent in your ObligacjeIO profile under Connected applications. Revocation blocks further use of that connection, but does not delete answers previously saved by your AI provider. Before a financial decision, check the original document and current issuer information, especially if an answer identifies gaps or relies on older data.
